Golden Love for Learning is a committed group of local parents, educators and community members working towards the creation of a new charter school in Golden, Colorado. Meet our Steering Committee:

Hillary Mizia, Chair and Partnerships Lead, has been active in the Golden community since moving here in 2003. With two small children and a background in experiential education, she is both vested and interested in seeing an alternative form of education in Golden. As an appointed member of the Community Sustainability Advisory Board for the city and a sustainability consultant, Hillary brings knowledge of sustainable living to the committee. A product of Quaker education and having served on numerous boards, she is comfortable working in and leading small groups.

Hillary Mason, Vice Chair and Curriculum Lead, is a devoted life-long learner and experienced educator. To accompany her dual undergraduate degrees in Environmental Science and Education, Hillary is currently earning her Masters Degree in Environmental Science with research focused on instruction and assessment of environmental literacy. Hillary has 10 years of teaching and curriculum development experience in both formal and non-formal settings. She is a firm believer in the power of education to strengthen and transform individuals and communities.

Catherine Bendl, Treasurer, Bendl is a professional grant writer working with numerous non-profit and for-profit organizations over the last seven years. She earned her MFA in Creative Writing from CSU in 2004 and holds a BA in Accounting. Her accounting experience at the national firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers and other regional firms coupled with her writing degree has proved successful in her grant writing endeavors. She is a former teacher of college English and worked at the National Center for Family Literacy supporting their mission of promoting literacy for all. She has extensive editing experience at nationally acclaimed organizations such as Bedford St. Martins and Sarabande Books.

Eric Wilson is an educator and doctoral student in science education that is driven to see fundamental changes in our energy consumption patterns. Currently, he is embarking on his PhD studies to focus on the efficacy of educating for sustainability. Eric has a Masters degree in Teaching from New York University’s Steinhardt School with a focus in secondary science education. His undergraduate study centered on Biological Anthropology and Art History at Emory University. He is the co-founder of 2nd Green Revolution, LLC a website dedicated to presenting pertinent information on the move toward a sustainable future.
